The department of Social Psychology of Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is looking for a Lecturer in Social, Economic, or Work and Organizational Psychology (0.5 FTE, 12 months, fixed-term)
Job description

We are looking for a Lecturer to join our department. 

  • You will work closely with the internship coordinator and the academic director of the Department of Social Psychology. 
  • You will assist in preparing and grading the internship reports and presentations that Master’s students (ca. 90 students) submit in the final stage of their education. This includes coordination and administration.
  • You contribute to the internship fair and can serve as a contact point for student deans (‘studentendecanen’) and Career Services.
  • You will coordinate (or assist in the coordination of) courses, and teach. 
  • Specifically, we are looking for colleagues that have expertise in teaching basic and advanced courses in (Cross-)cultural Psychology, and practical courses on intercultural skills (to both psychology and non-psychology students).
  • You may also be called upon to supervise bachelor thesis students (depending on the general capacity in the department).

Department
The department’s educational program includes courses in the Dutch Bachelor of Psychology, the international Bachelor of Psychology, the Master's programs in Economic Psychology and Work and Organizational Psychology, and the Social Psychology track in the Research Master's degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. We take pride in the excellent evaluations by our students, and our course coordinators have received numerous awards over the years. 

The research program of the department centers decision making in its broadest sense. Department members seek to understand how economic, social, and organizational settings shape individual and interdependent decisions. 

  • Economic and financial decision making (incl. poverty, inequality, uncertainty, incentives, as well as taxation, insurance, saving & spending)
  • Social and organizational decision making (incl. game theory, conflict & cooperation, and coalition formation, business ethics, lying & (dis)honesty)
  • Interpersonal/group decision making (incl. in/exclusion, threat, interdependence in relationships, collective action, and leader decision making, hiring/recruitment decisions, couple decision making)
  • Emotion and well-being (incl. emotions, decision making, and well-being; measurement of emotion and well-being momentaneous and over time, and consumer satisfaction, work satisfaction, life satisfaction, job motivation, parenthood). 

In addition to these themes there are cross-cutting themes, such as the role of cultural differences, gender, and aging.

The department uses a range of state-of-the-art research methods (online data collection, mobile computing, big data), has excellent research facilities (multi-use lab spaces, psychophysiological equipment), and has a dedicated research support staff (lab assistants, programmers, technical support).

Requirements
  • You have a completed bachelor's and master's degree in social sciences, or demonstrable extensive work experience at this level;
  • You have an eye for efficiency;
  • You have excellent communicative and contact skills (orally and in writing) in the Dutch and English language;
  • You are result-oriented, accurate, involved, and enterprising;
  • You are very strong organizationally and can maintain an overview at all times.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months, fixed-term.

The salary amounts to a minimum of € 2.960 and a maximum of 4.670 gross per month for full-time employment, based on UFO profile Lecturer 4 and salary scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities . Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for salary scaling that is based on work experience.  
You are entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% of your gross annual income. If you work 40 hours a week, you will receive 41 leave days per year.

All university employees are covered by a pension scheme for civil servants (“Ambtenarenpensioenfonds” ABP).
