Offer Description

The Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) has a vacancy for a lecturer. You will become part of a vibrant, international, and multidisciplinary group of lecturers and researchers.

As a lecturer in Law & Technology and member of our department’s education team, you will contribute to several education programs within Tilburg Law School, such as the Master Program Law & Technology, the bachelor Global Law and various data science courses/programs. In particular, you will supervise theses, be a Teaching Assistant for various courses and take on proactively tasks that need to be carried out by the lecturers (e.g. student contact, organizing events, maintaining links with practice).

You will be part of the education team, which consists of, in total, 6 lecturers, a management assistant, and the Director of Studies (Dr. Tineke Broer). The education team together supports the department’s staff with the various courses and lectures they teach, gives practical support to them as well to the Director of Studies, and ensures that TILT’s teaching is coherent and of good quality. Furthermore, since we believe high quality education is fostered by research, some involvement in research within the domain of Law & Technology is expected, working either on internally or externally funded projects.

As student numbers are increasing and because of the educational challenges that come with hybrid teaching, we are looking for a candidate with a passion to teach, a good sense of community (building) and devoted to providing our students with a high-quality learning environment. Since undertaking certain administrative educational duties autonomously (e.g., organization of extra-curricular activities and handing in grades to the student administration), accuracy and reliability are considered important skills.

Requirements
Specific Requirements

Tilburg University is curious about how you can contribute to our research, education, impact, and to the team you will be part of. Therefore, we would like to get the best possible picture of your knowledge, insight, and skills. Below you can find the qualifications we consider important for the position. The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a master’s degree in law - preferably with a specialization in Law & Technology (e.g., Contracts and ICT, Privacy and Data protection, Competition law, or ethics of data-driven technologies).
  • Has demonstrated ability and experience in teaching and supervising students, for instance by previous student assistant roles.
  • Is able to transfer knowledge to students in an engaging and clear manner.
  • Is accurate, reliable, and organized in their work.
  • Is proactive and accountable, able to prioritize across responsibilities, and manage varied commitments, and is able to communicate effectively with students, direct colleagues (including professors), and support staff.
  • Has near native-level command of English – and has knowledge of Dutch or willingness to acquire a command of the language within the first two years of the appointment.

To maintain a vibrant and active university community, it is important that we meet each other regularly and that the connection between us remains good. Therefore, the premise is that all staff members carry out their work in the Netherlands and that lecturing is done physically.
