You will be working at the Arts and Culture department within the Cultural Studies capacity group, which is responsible for the Global Arts, Culture and Politics BA. You can find the full curriculum here .

What are you going to do?
You will be teaching across the scope of the Global Arts, Culture and Politics BA. Launched in September 2023, this new BA programme includes four majors – Culture and Social Justice, Reimagining Sustainability, Art and Media, and the Human and AI. Your teaching in the programme shall centre on the socio-political dimension of the arts and culture in a firmly global perspective. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of teachers to offer inspiring lectures and seminars to a diverse cohort of students. You will also supervise BA theses.

Tasks and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the course coordinators, you will be teaching across the programme’s majors as well as teaching more general subjects. You will be carrying out the following tasks:

  • teaching lectures, seminars and tutorials;
  • supervising Bachelor’s theses;
  • attending meetings and lectures, preparing for teaching, updating and translating course materials or assignments and selecting teaching methods, in consultation with colleagues and course coordinators;
  • marking (final) assignments, theses and papers, providing input on tests and test questions and entering marks;
  • coordinating practical matters around your own teaching working group (such as handling administrative matters and communicating with students);
  • supervising theses and providing other individual supervision to students (mentoring, coaching and supervising internships).

You are flexible, creative and proactive with a passion for teaching. You are open to working in an interdisciplinary, multilingual, inclusive team of teachers committed to educational innovation. You are engaged with contemporary debates on aesthetics and politics from an interdisciplinary, global perspective.

Your experience and profile
Candidates need to have the following qualifications:

  • you have a MA degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline in the arts, humanities or social sciences;
  • preferably, you have a PhD on a topic related to aesthetics&politics in the arts, humanities or social sciences;
  • you have attained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If you have not attained the UTQ you are required to start with the UTQ track upon commencement of your employment contract and obtain the certificate within three years of employment;
  • you are pedagogically/didactically competent (able to cater to students’ needs, to teach a curriculum that has already been developed, to supervise students and to make an active contribution in meetings with fellow lecturers);
  • good command of Dutch and English. If you do not speak Dutch, an active and passive command must be acquired within the first two years of employment and the state examination for Dutch as a Second Language programme II must be passed;
  • you are able to teach in English.

We will prioritize candidates who hold a PhD (completed or very near completion); however, we will consider candidates with relevant teaching experience without a PhD.


Additional Information
Benefits

We offer temporary employment for a period of four years with a probationary period of two months. The employment contract is for 30.4 hours a week. The preferred starting date is 01 August 2024.

Your salary, depending on relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between € 3,226 to € 5,090 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8,3% year-end allowance. Favourable tax agreements may apply to applicants moving from abroad. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
