Offer Description

The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Section (E&I) at Amsterdam Business School (ABS) from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is an internationally recognized department with a strong focus on high-quality academic teaching, research, and impact.

ABS is a growing, research driven business school at an internationally recognized university that has the ambition to become a leading international player in the field of business research and education. ABS is located in the heart of Amsterdam, the cultural and financial capital of the Netherlands, offering a cosmopolitan living environment with excellent connections to the world.

E&I Section’s main strengths in teaching, research, and impact are entrepreneurship, innovation management, creative & cultural industries, and advanced computational methods, together with our ties to the (entrepreneurial and cultural)Amsterdam. We combine teaching and research excellence with deep engagement in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and beyond.

Our Section houses over 25 scholars, from junior (tenure track) to leading senior researchers, as well as PhD candidates. Faculty members regularly publish in top entrepreneurship, innovation, management, and psychology journals and present their work at top academic conferences every year. The section is very collegial and diverse, its scholars come from 14 different nationalities, with wide range of backgrounds.

The section’s education portfolio is based on two interrelated management challenges: creating and growing new ventures, as well as realizing and capturing innovations. The relevance of the combination of entrepreneurship and innovation has become clear in topics such as startups, entrepreneurship psychology, technology (e.g., AI), open innovation, creative and cultural industries, management of creative teams, crowdfunding, the lean startup movement, scaling up new ventures, and corporate entrepreneurship. The section promotes a challenge-based, experiential learning environment to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and innovative leaders for the future.

E&I offers courses and programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels, such as:

  • Bachelor Business Administration – Track Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Creativity.
  • Minor Entrepreneurship (University-wide Bachelor’s program).
  • Master Business Administration – Track Entrepreneurship & Management in the Creative Industries.
  • Master Business Administration – Track Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

The section also offers a joint Master’s in Entrepreneurship in a collaboration between the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam.

Our newly designed campus is in the city center of Amsterdam, one of the most vibrant, diverse and friendliest cities in Europe, with an exceptionally high quality of life. English is widely spoken in the Netherlands. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries.
