Job description
As an accomplished and visionary Senior Scientist with a strong focus on high tech animal models and your deep understanding of the 3 R's (replacement, reduction, and refinement) in animal research you will enable to initiate and execute science-based research for various stakeholders. Your expertise in animal models will be applied towards developing cutting-edge technologies and methodologies that are essential in advancing our research in biomedical science.
You as Scientist will contribute together with Wageningen Bioveterinary Research to a society where animals and humans live a healthy life by scientific research to prevent the spread of animal diseases and promote health.  
Your responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate research and development activities related to high tech animal models for veterinary and human research, including infectious disease models, sensoring, imaging, and data integration.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance our understanding of veterinary and human health.
  • Become a leader in high tech animal models in the scientific community, representing our organization at national and international conferences, and maintaining visibility in relevant Dutch and international European networks.
  •  Demonstrate project leadership skills by leading projects or programs, coordinating activities, and communicating progress and outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders in the veterinary and animal health industry, including government agencies, academic institutions, and industry organizations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in high tech animal models and related fields, and apply the knowledge to develop novel approaches and solutions for veterinary and human pharmaceutical research.

Requirements
You are a result-oriented and enthusiastic senior researcher at PhD level, with a large network in this field. You are a proactive teamplayer that is used to work within interdisciplinary teams. You have experience and preferably with  sensor techniques to refine and reduce animal models,  integrating data and the application of in vitro analyses. Your entrepreneurial mindset enables you to explore interesting opportunities in the workfield including contract research.
You also possess:
  •  PhD in life sciences like veterinary medicine, animal science, pharmacology, or a related field.
  • Proven expertise in high tech animal models, , sensoring, imaging, and data integration.
  • Strong understanding of the 3 R's (replacement, reduction, and refinement) in animal research, and ability to apply these principles in research design and execution.
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills, with the ability to lead projects or programs, coordinate activities, and drive research initiatives.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch language (English level C1/C2 ) to effectively communicate with colleagues and partners.

Conditions of employment

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 4.149,- and € 6.978,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 12/13).. You will initially receive a one-year contract, which will be extended to an open-ended contract upon in mutual enthusiasm.          
The work location is Houtribweg 39, Lelystad. 
The work will take place partly in buildings with a quarantine regulation. As a result, contact with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) sensitive animals and poultry production companies is not allowed for three days after the work

Wageningen Bioveterinary Research
Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) is a leading research institute in the field of animal health, and public health. Its unique selling point lies in its interdisciplinary approach to research and its focus on innovative solutions for complex problems in these fields. 
WBVR has a unique position in the Netherlands, as it is the only research institute that is allowed to work with the most animal viruses and bacteria up to level vBSL4 (vDM4), such as foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever in laboratories and animal facilities, were large livestock animals (o.a. cattle) and smaller rodents can be housed.
