Key responsibilities
• To facilitate and ensure knowledge exchange between researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders in the Netherlands and African countries, amongst others through the organization of workshops/webinars and the management of third party research.
• To disseminate research findings.
• To provide a good balance of stakeholder participation with Dutch and international academia, policymakers, private sector actors, civil-society organizations (CSOs) and other representatives.
• Planning of secretariat meetings, steering groups meetings and supporting the organization of platform meetings.
• Budget monitoring support
• MEL including IATI monitoring
In particular,
• Organizing and facilitating brokering workshops for research consortia and stakeholders.
• Programme process management
• Analyzing and scaling up new and existing knowledge on INCLUDE’s thematic fields.
• Identifying knowledge gaps and needs.
Selection criteria
• A PhD in a relevant discipline (for example economics, development studies, political science, or human geography) is an asset, a Master in a relevant discipline is required.
• Affinity with and knowledge of inclusive development themes, digitalization and youth employment is an asset.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills and the capacity to manage several activities at the same time.
• The capacity to engage with academia, policymakers, civil-society and other relevant stakeholders.
• Excellent writing skills and (inter-cultural) communication skills.
• Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
• The ability to share academic knowledge with non-academic audiences.
• Be fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing), Dutch and French is an asset.
• Experience in Africa is an asset.
Our organisation
The African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL) is the only multidisciplinary academic knowledge institute in the Netherlands devoted entirely to the study of Africa. In addition, collecting and disseminating knowledge and information about Africa is an important task. The ASCL does this, among other things, by publishing books and articles and organizing seminars and conferences. The ASCL was founded in 1947 and has approx. 50 employees. It has an extensive library that is open to the general public. The ASCL is an interfaculty institute of Leiden University. INCLUDE was established by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 2012. It brings together researchers from African countries and the Netherlands who work with the private sector, NGOs and governments to exchange information and ideas on how to achieve better research-policy linkages on inclusive development in Africa. Relevant themes for INCLUDE are a.o. digitalization, public services provision, youth employment and youth engagement.
Terms and conditions
We offer a one year position, with the possible extension of 3 years, based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from €2960 to €4670 gross per month (pay scale 10, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on a fulltime position.
