Job description

UCM is looking for (Junior) Teachers as of the academic year 2023/2024. We are looking for motivated (Junior) Teachers who are committed to excellence in teaching. Teaching allocation will be done according to the needs of the college and primarily in core courses and introductory skills trainings [i.e. Research Methods; Introduction to Academic Skills; Contemporary World History; Political Philosophy; Philosophy of Science; and Science, Reason and Human Progress]. In exceptional cases, (Junior) Teachers may teach in concentration courses which are more directly linked to their profile/academic specialty. For this reason, an academic background in International Relations, Sociology, Psychology, Cultural Studies and Arts would be considered advantageous. 

As a (Junior) Teacher you may also be appointed by the Board of Admissions as an interviewer and conduct interviews with prospective students. Depending on the needs of the College, there may be opportunity to participate in other scholarly/administrative tasks such as supervising Bachelor/Capstone theses, and academic advising.

Requirements

To qualify for the position you should have, by the time of appointment:

  • A Master degree
  • An affinity for Dutch liberal arts and sciences education
  • You should be committed to small scale student centered education
  • The official language at University College Maastricht is English, therefore excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required (at least C1 level)

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Contract type: Temporary for 1 year, based on positive evaluation the contract may become a permanent contract, depending on the needs of the College. If a Junior Teacher becomes a permanent employee, the completion of the nationally recognized University Teaching Qualification (UTQ, BKO in Dutch) is required within 2 years of the original start date [UTQ and other professional development activities may be completed during the working hours at the College]. Successful applicants will be required to work towards B1 level proficiency in Dutch.

Furthermore, local UM provisions also apply. Salary is depending on qualifications and work experience (salary scale 10 of the CAO-NU) for a fulltime position (12 monthly payments). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% year-end bonus. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule).
