Job description

We are looking to employ a junior teacher, a person who shares our commitment to collegiality and excellence in executive education and applied research in the field of data protection and privacy law. We are seeking to employ a person to complement our existing team. The successful candidate will contribute to the international profile and standing of the ECPC, which is one of the Maastricht University’s highly successful training and research centres. The position is open to those with an expertise in data protection and privacy law.

As an ECPC junior teacher, you will:

  • serve as a junior subject matter expert and conduct commissioned research and studies in the field of Data Protection, Privacy, data management;
  • deliver teaching in appropriate subject areas towards executive education programmes designed for professionals;
  • Co-coordinate the thesis and project assignments within the professional diploma;
  • Draft project reports, tenders, articles, case studies etc…;
  • Assist in preparing courses, writing proposals and reports, run case studies and group assignments in executive education programmes.

Moreover, as an ECPC team member, you will be expected to provide help and assistance to the ECPC management in expanding the executive educational offer of ECPC in new areas, such as the Humanitarian Action Programme, courses for European institutions and in acquiring new funding and tenders. The position offers considerable space for personal initiative and fulfilment.

The working language is English. The preferred starting date is 1 June or as soon as possible thereafter.

Requirements
  • A Master's degree in law (LL.M. or equivalent) in the field of data protection, privacy law or relevant area. Candidates from related and relevant disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
  • The candidate demonstrates deep knowledge of data privacy and has an interest and expertise in the interplay between data protection/privacy and technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and fundamental rights.
  • A broader practical and theoretical understanding of privacy issues and challenges emerging from the increased use of new technologies is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in implementing data protection rules in humanitarian aid sector or international organisation is an asset.
  • Experience with conducting applied research and teaching professionals.
  • Experience with working in a Problem Based Learning environment is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent writing, organisational and problem solving skills.
  • Strong client service orientation, good communication skills, including the ability to liaise with people across the business.
  • Keen to develop new business and use initiative.
  • Excellent command of the English language (spoken & written).

Conditions of employment

Working hours: maximum of 38 hours per week.

Employment is initially for one year, with a possibility for prolongation.

The salary depends on qualifications and experience. The salary will be set between minimum gross monthly salary € 2,960 and maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,670 of salary scale 10, based on a full-time employment, of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities.

ECPC – European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity

The European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity (ECPC), established under the Law Faculty of Maastricht University, offers executive education programmes closely intertwined with the centre’s research on legal issues related to personal data protection and cybersecurity. A growing number of certified professionals are required to deal with new regulations and on-going developments in the privacy and cybersecurity market. In order to meet this global demand, ECPC offers a complete track of regular practice-oriented DPO training and certification courses, a full diploma track on privacy management, conferences and seminars on emerging issues and challenges. From September 2021 on ECPC offers a new Advanced Master in Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Management. This programme offers an ambitions curriculum for professionals that bridges the intersection between law, technology, ethics, governance and management.
