Job description
The department of Social and Cultural Anthropology is looking for a junior lecturer (temporary position, February-December 2022) with a passion for teaching Anthropology. You will be teaching courses in our Bachelor program.
Your duties
- teach or assist in various courses in the Bachelor program
- supervise bachelor’s theses
- contribute to the student mentorship and internship programs
- take part in monthly departmental meetings
- actively participate in projects to further develop and innovate education
Requirements
A successful candidate has recently completed a Master in Social or Cultural Anthropology and has experience in teaching. Affinity with the department’s research in the fields of mobility, migration, religion, diversity or development would be a plus.

What are we offering?
A 0.7 FTE challenging position in a socially engaged organization. The remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,836 (scale 10) and a maximum €4,474 (scale 10), for a full-time appointment and depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system.
The contract is for 11 months.

About the department
The Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology is a vibrant and internationally oriented department. In 2018-2019 we introduced an international bachelor program which is drawing a lot of extra students from both the Netherlands and abroad. Our Master program has been international from the start. Our students are engaged and motivated and the international students have added to the social and cultural diversity that is characteristic for the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and especially important for anthropologists. With our educational programs we want to make a difference. In our program we combine sound academic knowledge with courses in which students have hands on experience with applying anthropology outside the ivory tower.
