Job description

We are looking for one colleague who is passionate about education, within the areas of “Software Engineering and Information Sciences”. Our Department wants to attract a junior lecturer who can strengthen our staff by giving high-quality instruction in teaching. You will support the Bachelor and/or Master programs. As a junior lecturer, you will be involved in various teaching-related and organizational activities in both programmes.

As a Junior lecturer you will be encouraged to work on academic innovations and to build a portfolio in the context of education as a preparation for various career paths. To this end, you will have the opportunity to acquire a basic qualification in teaching at university level (‘BKO’). The junior lecturer position is ideally suited for early-career teachers. A full Junior Lecturer Trajectory is 4 years and 2 months.

Each junior lecturer position will be embedded in the following areas and related education programs:

  • Software Engineering. Related courses in our Bachelor Computer Science include subjects like: Requirements Engineering, Software Design, Software Process (from academic year 2022/23). Related courses in our Master Computer Science (Track Software Engineering and Green IT) include subjects like: Service Oriented Design, Software Architecture, Green Lab, Foundations of Adaptive Software (from academic year 2022/23).
  • Information Sciences: Related courses in our Bachelor Computer Science include subjects like: Information Management, Web Technology, Human-Computer Interaction. Related courses in our Master Information Sciences include subjects like: Digitalization and Sustainability, Software Architecture, Research Methodology and Thesis Design.

Your duties

The junior lecturer will be expected to:

  • supervise/coordinate bachelor and/or master thesis projects
  • support teachers in individual courses in the associated education programmes
  • coordinate student assistants
  • provide technical and organisational assistance for project-oriented courses
  • advise on and help with the further development of innovative teaching concepts

Requirements
  • have completed a Master in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Sciences or a related Master programme
  • have the academic background/competences in the position of choice
  • be enthusiastic about teaching
  • have strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • possess good organizational skills
  • be proactive and able to work independently

What are we offering?

A full Junior Lecturer Trajectory is 4 years including 2 months probation, and cannot be extended beyond this period. This position therefore does not lead to permanent employment.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization is ideally suited for starting teachers. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,960 (scale 10) and a maximum €4,670 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

The employment contract will affect a period of 50 months. The junior lecturer position is placed in the Department of Computer Science. The position is immediately available.
