Offer Description
Are you an enthusiastic, recently-graduated planner, geographer or landscape architect with an academic attitude and broad interdisciplinary interest? Do you like to contribute to the debate about how to go about with all the competing claims for space and how to organize our scarce open space in a more sustainable manner? Then we are looking for you!
We are looking for a colleague to help us with teaching assignments. The programs we teach in evolve around the question of how to spatially arrange our countryside, cities and infrastructure in such a manner that the country will be robust to future environmental and demographic challenges. How can we support vibrant and resilient countryside and their communities, and address their needs and challenges? What planning and design choices are necessary for nature conservation, drought management and sustainable agriculture? What are functional, efficient, and just spatial designs and how do we assess this? As junior lecturer you will contribute to courses such as Mobility & Network Infrastructures, Planning and Design for Urban Space, and Studio Strategic Planning. You will also supervise BSc and MSc theses. About 30% of your time can be used to conduct research or keep yourself updated on the state-of-the-art in our field.
You will be appointed at the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning (LSP) group at Wageningen University. This group hosts an interdisciplinary team of professors, lecturers, postdocs and PhD students, who all work on challenges such as climate mitigation and adaptation, safeguarding biodiversity and keeping our countryside vital. Do you want to know more about our work at the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning (LSP) group? Check out our page with news, recent publications and projects.
Requirements
Specific Requirements
You are an enthusiastic academic with a drive for teaching and collaborating with colleagues with various backgrounds. You are interested in the challenges that face the Dutch countryside and all its inhabitants, and in the interplay between rural and urban areas. You are open to a variety of tasks and have a flexible attitude.
You also possess:
- An MSc in spatial planning, geography, landscape architecture or related discipline
- Proven skills in GIS and basic quantitative analysis methods
- Dutch proficiency (most courses will be taught in Dutch), at least at B2 level
- Some experience with teaching and/or tutoring
You will work here
The Land Use Planning chair group investigates how we deal with scarcity of space. An increasing number of actors claims space for a wide range of activities: energy production, climate adaptation, recreation, housing, etc. What does this mean for the current ‘owners’ of the countryside, being farmers and nature organizations? Which functions can be combined and which should be separated? How should this be organized? We aim for inclusive solutions and actively engage with stakeholders in all phases of our research. Accordingly, we educate and train a growing numbers of Bachelor, Master and PhD students to become knowledgeable, reflective, and creative Landscape architects and planners.
