Job description
Utrecht University has opened a new faculty position at Junior Assistant Professor level in the field of innovation policy (fixed term, maximum 6 years). The teaching-research ratio of this position is 66% teaching and 34% research. Research time can be expanded from 34% to a maximum of 70% at the expense of teaching time. Such expansion depends on whether research projects are successfully acquired by senior staff members, for example, with ministries or the European Commission. Generally, we have such projects every year.
We are looking for:
  • academics who have obtained their MSc in a relevant subject (Innovation Studies, Public Administration, Economics, or related field) and want to continue their academic career, potentially leading to a PhD;
  • a colleague who will teach under the supervision of senior staff in the Bachelor programme Science and Innovation Management (in Dutch: ‘Natuurwetenschap & Innovatiemanagement ’), and;
  • will be part of the research group working together in the Mission-oriented Innovation Policy Observatory (MIPO) at the Copernicus Institute.
Those close to finishing a PhD can also apply, and can also teach in Master programs upon completion of the PhD. Based on their personal development as a teacher, the candidate can obtain a Basic Teaching Qualification (‘BKO’), which is important for a further academic career.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will: 
  • hold a Master degree in Innovation Studies, Public Administration, Economics, or related field; 
  • have excellent communication skills, be good in interpersonal relationships and an excellent team player; 
  • have affinity with working in an interdisciplinary research and teaching environment; 
  • have affinity with public outreach, working with societal stakeholders and transdisciplinary research;
  • Dutch and English language proficiency is a plus;
  • experience with and talent for academic teaching at Bachelor's level is a plus;

Offer
We offer a temporary position (1.0 FTE) for six years in an international working environment. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,960 and €4,670 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
