The Department of Anthropology is looking for a part-time management assistant who will support the management team of the Department.

What are you going to do

In this broad, new support position within the department of anthropology you will assist the management team consisting of the chair of the department, programme group directors, directors of Masters’ and Bachelors’ programmes and the department manager. You will build up institutional memory and will be able to proactively address things that need to be done or developed, taking responsibility for the tasks that are entrusted to you. As the position is new, you will have the chance to think along in shaping your tasks. You will work at the intersection of administrative, organizational and academic work.

This will entail:

  • Providing general assistance to the chair (research and administrative).
  • Providing administrative support to department manager.
  • Maintaining the department calendar.
  • Assistance in organizing:
    • the practical part of hiring procedures;
    • management and department meetings (making agenda, taking notes and file documents etc.);
    • departmental seminars and community building activities.
  • Help with planning meetings and workshops, including:
    • curating, helping decide on format;
    • budgeting, including streamlining format with what is possible budget wise (in close collaboration with budget holders and other support staff colleagues);
    • communication with participants and practical support (hotels, travel, handing in receipts, etc.), in close collaboration with the secretariat of the department.
  • Coordinating the updating of departmental website and program group websites, including collecting content and organizing strategic brainstorm sessions;
  • developing social media presence;
  • setting up valorisation activities (events with non-academic partners) and help increasing the visibility of staff valorisation activitites.

What do you have to offer

You have:

  • academic education (Master’s level) or commensurate research-related experience;
  • at least two years experience with organizational and research related work;
  • experience and proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools;
  • outstanding organizational and communicative skills;
  • a pro-active and professional working attitude;
  • ability to prioritize, multitask and, if needed, improvise;
  • ability to work independently and as a part of a team;
  • willingness to invest in and get acquainted with a complex, dynamic and international working environment;
  • good proficiency in spoken and written Dutch and English.

What can we offer you

The position is exclusively open to internal candidates and concerns temporary employment of 22,8 hours per week (0.6 fte) at the Department of Anthropology. The starting date will be as soon as possible, no later than 1 May 2024. Initial employment is for one year. Permanent employment is possible, following a positive assessment and barring altered circumstances.

Depending on your relevant experience, the minimum salary will be € 2,693 and the maximum salary €4,104 gross per month based on a 38-hour working weekCollective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities .

We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
