Interim Managing Director

The Interim Managing Director will be involved in the process of formulating the long-term needs of the department in terms of management and governance.  Your expertise and experience guiding an organization through an organizational and culture change will be pivotal in your assignment.  In concluding your assignment, you will have helped the department to become financially and organizationally sound.  As the department currently is in a transitional phase, which affects services and processes that fall under the responsibility of the Managing Director, this position is interim.

The Managing Director is responsible for managing all support processes in the department and leads the Departmental Office that provides high quality support to education, research and valorisation. This includes Human Resources Management including career development, finance, ICT, communication, accommodation, legal affairs, and internal affairs. The Managing Director also carries responsibility for health, safety and environmental aspects, which are key to the operation of the CE&C department. 

In addition, the Managing Director, at the request of the University Executive Board, participates in various university-wide consultative bodies, and through collaboration with other directors, makes an active contribution to shaping modern and efficient operational management at the TU/e.

Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, established in 1957, is one of the nine departments of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The department is located in the Helix and Matrix buildings on the TU/e campus. The department houses over 500 researchers, 525 students and 50 support staff of which a substantial part is International. Our department has extensive laboratory facilities that occupy 12,000 m2 housing state-of-the-art equipment.

Responsibilities and core tasks

The Interim Managing Director is leads and is ultimately responsible for all operational processes in the department in the widest sense with an emphasis on:

  • Ensuring a well-functioning and integrated business operation; taking steps to optimize the current structure and culture.
  • Sustainable financial management that serves to promote the strategy and development of the department and its staff in terms of its primary processes of education and research.
  • Ensuring a safe and healthy work, educational and research environment within the department.
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with relevant private partners, government, institutions and other stakeholders.
