Description

ESM Team Leader in the Lunar Exploration Group, Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration Programmes.

The European Service Module (ESM) is a crucial European contribution to the Artemis cooperative exploration mission with NASA. It serves as currency to pay for ESA’s Common Systems Operations Costs (CSOC) in the framework of the ISS programme and also contributes to the Gateway cooperation. The ESM is a critical element for all NASA Artemis missions and thus fulfils ESA’s objective of bringing European astronauts to the Moon.


Duties

If selected for this position, under the direct authority of the Leader of the Lunar Exploration Group, as Leader of the European Service Module Team you will:

  • execute to performance, schedule and budget all industrial activities associated with the design, development, assembly and testing of the Orion-ESM flight models;
  • manage all procurement tasks associated with the Orion-ESM industrial contract;
  • manage all technical interfaces with NASA and its industrial contractors as applicable;
  • maintain and implement the partner agency cooperation agreement.

Technical competencies

Multi-disciplinary knowledge of area of responsibility in Human Spaceflight applications

Knowledge of other technical domains with interfaces to own area of responsibility

Space system development and PA standards

Education

A master's degree is required for this post.

You should also have:

  • proven experience of leading, motivating and developing a team in a project environment;
  • the ability to provide strategic direction to the individuals within the team and to relate team objectives to the overall evolving organisational goals and context;
  • the ability to drive performance and foster cooperation within and across teams throughout the organisation;
  • demonstrated excellent leadership, relationship management and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • a proven track record of representing the Agency’s interests to external interfaces;
  • excellent cognitive, analytical, delegation, planning and organisational skills;
  • the ability to anticipate problems, resolve complex issues and relate situations to their context;

People management experience is an asset, as is international experience, i.e. outside your home country, as well as experience in diverse functional areas relevant to ESA activities.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required.
Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
