Job description

The hospital’s anaesthesiology team supports both the companion animal and equine clinics and performs sedations and general anaesthesia procedures needed for diagnostic imaging, interventional procedures and surgical procedures as well as the equine intensive care unit, giving staff the opportunity to truly work with different aspects of their specialty. To complement the equine anaesthesia service we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated equine veterinarian.


The equine anesthesiology team currently consists of one board-eligible Anaesthetist and one fourth-year ECVAA resident, who works part-time in the equine and part-time in the companion animal clinic, one equine board-eligible internist, two part-time equine veterinarians and three equine rotating interns.
As an Anaesthesia Specialist, you will contribute to clinical activities in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive care of companion animals and horses and related clinical teaching. You will also be able to participate in various research programmes of the department as appropriate/desired.

Qualifications As our new colleague you:
  • have a DVM degree , recognized by the Dutch Bureau for Veterinary registrations;
  • are preferably board-certified (ACVAA or ECVAA) as a Specialist in veterinary anaesthesiology, or have completed a residency in anaesthesiology;
  • have clear affinity and demonstrably extensive experience in the field of clinical anaesthesia of companion animals and horses;
  • are flexible, pro-active and a team player, and you perform well, even under pressure;
  • are willing to perform on-call duty in an out-of-hours-rota (1 in 5).

Offer

We are very happy to welcome a new colleague who has clear affinity and preferably experience in the field of clinical anaesthesia of horses. We offer a permanent position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE), initially starting with a 12-month contract. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,846 and €4,490 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. As an expat you will have the benefit of 30% off from government tax-rules for the first 5 years! 
Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. The university complex houses a busy equine hospital with more than 100 box stalls, an OR suite with four ORs including a dedicated OR for standing procedures, a 24/7 neonatal foal ICU (in season) and a 24/7 emergency referral clinic as well as an ambulatory equine service. We have a large diagnostic imaging department which supports both equine and small animal clinics, and features a 1.5T MRI and 64-slice CT scanner, state-of-the-art digital x-ray room with integrated fluoroscopy, mobile fluoroscopy and ultrasonography.
