Job description

Are you fascinated by the application of electromagnetics to healthcare? Do you want to improve cancer treatment using advanced personalized treatment planning and control? Within the SENS-THERM project we have vacancies for highly motivated EngD students. You will join our team to integrate various software components of thermotherapy treatment planning and control software into a cohesive, unified product. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technology aimed at improving the delivery of thermotherapy treatments. If you are passionate about software integration, innovation and making a meaningful impact in the field of healthcare technology, we encourage you to apply.

Job Description

The primary goal of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive software product tailored for clinical research purposes. You will ensure the smooth integration and functionality of treatment planning software, patient positioning software, magnetic resonance thermometry, real-time field sensing and treatment delivery control systems into a unified platform specifically designed for head and neck thermotherapy applicators. This software will not only prioritize technical integration but also emphasize the creation of a user-friendly interface and streamlined workflow for daily clinical use. Operating within the medtech research triangle encompassing Sensius BV in Rotterdam, Erasmus MC, and TU/e, this assignment offers an invaluable opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of the entire medical software design, validation, and implementation process. Close collaboration with the Erasmus MC radiotherapy group will ensure rigorous validation procedures, emphasizing adherence to Medical Device Regulations compatible programming. Moreover, the software's ultimate implementation at Erasmus MC is planned, providing an excellent chance for the candidate to actively contribute to the realization of a tangible, impactful solution within a real clinical setting.

Eindhoven University of Technology is an internationally top-ranking university in the Netherlands that combines scientific curiosity with a hands-on attitude. Our spirit of collaboration translates into an open culture and a top-five position in collaborating with advanced industries. Fundamental knowledge enables us to design solutions for the highly complex problems of today and tomorrow.

The Care+Cure research lab of the Electromagnetics (EM) group (EM4Care+Cure) contains simulation software & expertise, EM expertise & lab equipment, and academic staff adept at developing non-animal human-based (NAHB) modeling for designing innovative technology in neuromodulation, MRI, EM therapy and wireless communication & power transfer to human body implants. As a group, the experienced staff in the lab cover fundamental and applied EM and bio-EM research skills, with knowledge of the technological and experimental needs in biological and clinical research for supporting application research at our partner institutes in the Netherlands and Europe. Excellent EM4Care+Cure lab facilities support EM and probe/coil/antenna measurements (Hz-GHz), dielectric-thermal-MRI phantom creation & phantom/tissue characterization, and state-of-the-art simulation tools for device and experiment design (CST, Sim4Life, custom EM solvers). Our research armamentarium further includes an MRI scanner (O-scan, ESAOTE), a device for electroencephalography (EEG) (BioSemi) and commercial & custom devices for 3D EM scanning in tissue-mimicking fluids.
