Job description
The
Theoretical Chemistry,
Molecular and Computational Toxicology, and
Medicinal Chemistrygroups at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam are active in addressing several fundamental and applied issues relevant for today’s society. The
Theoretical Chemistrygroup actively develops powerful chemical theories and methods to enable prediction and rational design of target molecules, nano-structures and materials as well as new, more efficient chemical processes towards these compounds, based on quantum mechanics and computer simulations. The
Molecular and Computational Toxicologygroup is specialized in developing computational and human
in vitro(non-animal) based strategies for the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of chemical-induced toxicity in order to better predict chemical safety in humans. The
Medicinal Chemistryseeks to understand drug-protein interaction at the molecular detail, and to use this knowledge for the computational design and synthesis of new bioactive molecules.
The facilities of our research groups include computer labs with different hardware platforms (Linux and Mac) and a cluster of powerful computers to run our simulations. The research and teaching of our groups rely heavily on our software and hardware. To enhance the quality of our underlying infrastructure, we urgently need a good Computational Lab and System Manager to direct all technical aspects of our computers and software in both research and teaching settings.
