Climate Focus is looking for a climate policy trainee to join our Amsterdam or Rotterdam team.

Traineeship description

The trainee will be based in our Amsterdam or Rotterdam office and participate in projects Climate Focus is carrying out for its international clients, ranging from climate finance feasibility assessments, carbon project development, to legal and policy research. Technical support to the company’s activities in international climate negotiations may also be required..

Specific tasks will include:

  • Research on climate policy and governance, carbon markets and pricing, and climate finance
  • Supporting the development of communication and engagement strategies for climate policies
  • Supporting drafting and editing of reports and briefings
  • Contributing to the acquisition process by supporting with the preparation of proposals

The traineeship will run for a period of 6 months, with possible extension.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Completed a bachelor’s degree in public policy, climate policy, carbon/sustainability management or similar. A master’s degree in (in the above fields) is desirable.
  • Proven skills (and fluency) in writing papers, articles or reports in English (knowledge of other languages such as French, German and Spanish is a plus)
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Proven affinity with environmental protection and climate change mitigation
  • Previous experience or education in the field of climate change policy, climate and development finance, or sustainability
  • Team player that enjoys working in a client-oriented, international environment
  • Permission to work in the Netherlands - please note that we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position
