Climate Focus is looking for a carbon finance trainee to join our Amsterdam or Rotterdam team.

Traineeship description

The trainee will be based in our Amsterdam or Rotterdam office and participate in projects Climate Focus is carrying out for its international clients. This role requires conducting policy research relating to climate finance and carbon markets, particularly in the context of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. .

Specific tasks will include:

  • Support advisory projects for government, multilateral, and private sector clients in the area of climate finance, carbon market mechanisms, and carbon market transactions
  • Contribute to policy dialogue between key stakeholders on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement
  • Support clients in developing bankable concept notes and mitigation investment projects that can be funded by carbon and/or climate finance
  • Drafting and editing of reports, issue papers and policy briefs
  • Contributing to the acquisition process by supporting with the preparation of proposals

The traineeship will run for a period of 6 months, with possible extension.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Completed a bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, political science, carbon/sustainability management and international cooperation or similar. A master’s degree (in the above fields) is desirable.
  • Proven skills (and fluency) in writing papers, articles or reports in English
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Proven affinity with environmental protection and climate change mitigation and interest in carbon and climate finance
  • Previous experience or education in the field of climate change policy, climate and development finance, or sustainability
  • Team player that enjoys working in a client-oriented, international environment
  • Permission to work in the Netherlands - please note that we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position
