Offer Description

As international business development manager of WUR Plant Sciences Group (PSG), you are going to create strong international partnerships in the field of sustainable food production. In this role you utilize your entrepreneurial and networking skills to build bridges between our scientific expertise and the necessary solutions to contribute to the UN sustainable development goals.

You will be responsible for building new international research consortia and professionalization of the collaborative activities of both Wageningen Plant Research and WU Department of Plant Sciences (DPS). This will involve in particular networking activities, lobbying regarding agenda-setting of key strategic topics of PSG/WUR in particular at European level, negotiation and discussion with potential consortium members and coordinating outreach and dissemination efforts. You will be appointed at Wageningen Plant Research (WPR).

Your duties and responsibilities as business development manager are:

  • Exploring new initiatives and funding opportunities for interdisciplinary programmes with a clear focus on creating impact;
  • liaising with other research partners (universities/research organisations) and other stakeholders in Europe and where applicable globally;
  • staying up-to-date with key expertises and topics within PSG which are relevant for contributing to the to the major global challenges of our time;
  • together with our experts and those of our partners, take the lead in translating societal and business needs into new, politically relevant, program proposals;
  • writing policy briefs and initiating the writing of white papers;
  • advising the colleagues from the WPR business units and the chair groups of DPS with respect to initiating large new research proposals.

In this position, you will have a high degree of responsibility and independence, but you also work closely with colleagues and partners. You will also have to travel regularly in connection with participation in (international) meetings.


Requirements
Specific Requirements

You have excellent networking skills and communication skills to sell our ideas both internally and externally. Besides that you have good analytical and organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines. You are a connector, also within WUR, and an honest, accurate and convincing team player, who can effectively organise processes while respecting everyone's own responsibility.

You also possess:

  • preferably 5 years of experience in a similar complex knowledge organization with a proven track record in setting up international partnerships for international research programs;
  • relevant work experience in the plant sciences field and affinity for the agrifood domain;
  • a well-developed political and institutional awareness and are able to handle complex situations with sometimes conflicting interests;

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position language level C1 is requested. If you do not yet have this level, we will of course help you via our language center Wageningen in'to Language

You will initially be given a one-year contract, which will be converted into an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm.
