Job description
Do you have a passion for biological pest control and do you want to use it for one of the most innovative and world-leading sectors of agriculture; greenhouse horticulture? Are you willing to work on new solutions together with growers, suppliers, governments and other researchers?
As a Bsc researcher biological pest control you contribute to the development of systems for biological pest control and you improve existing systems. You work together in a team of experts in the field of plant health, cultivation and greenhouse technology. You contribute to making (greenhouse) horticulture in the Netherlands as well as in other parts of the world more sustainable.
In this position you conduct applied research in the field of insects and mites. You deal with:
  • Trials with mites and insects in lab and greenhouse, both at the experimental farm in Bleiswijk and in practice
  • Designing, organizing and conducting the experiments
  • Processing and interpreting the research data, and taking care of the reporting, in reports, (web) articles and newsletters
  • Contacts with customers and contributing to the acquisition of new projects

Requirements
  • A completed Bsc in horticulture, applied biology or a comparable education with knowledge and experience of entomology
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up, coordinating and conducting entomological research
  • Knowledge of and experience in greenhouse horticulture is an advantage
  • An enthusiastic and ambitious colleague who is strong in communication, who can plan and organize well, and who easily collaborates with researchers from different disciplines and garden staff
  • Command of both Dutch and English
  • Excellent written and oral reporting and presentations
  • Driving License B

Greenhouse Horticulture
The business unit Greenhouse Horticulture & Flower Bulbs of Wageningen University & Research is the internationally leading research institute for greenhouse horticulture and flower bulbs. We focus on innovations in greenhouse horticulture. Together with the business community, government and other research institutes, we work on issues related to greenhouse design, optimization of production systems, new crops, crop protection and the quality of the harvested product. We translate this into innovations for the sector. In the Greenhouse Horticulture & Flower Bulbs business unit, we work with 120 colleagues at two locations, Wageningen and Bleiswijk.
