Job description

The Human Cell Atlas (HCA) project is an international consortium aiming to identify all cell types and their molecular phenotypes in the human body through a combination of high-throughput single-cell genomic profiling and spatial mapping using multiplexed FISH or spatial transcriptomics. The Human Lung Cell Atlas is one of the flagship programs of the HCA and will serve as a critical reference for understanding the changes in cellular composition and states, and the cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions underlying chronic lung disease. Within the HCA-Lung, our group performs single cell RNA sequencing on bronchial biopsies obtained from both patients with asthma and healthy controls, and combines these datas with SNP genotypes, CpG methylation profiles, immunohistochemistry stainings, FISH analyses and demographic or clinical variables.

Within the currently active HCA-Lung projects, we have an opening for a bioinformatician, focused on the analysis of single-cell RNA seq data of airway wall tissue, integration of these datasets with other levels of omics data (ATAC-Seq, CHIP-Seq, SNP genotypes) and charting cell-state transitions using pseudotime inference modelling. Newly developed computational methods will be integrated into the workflow as these come available through our international network.

What do we need

The successful candidate will hold a BSc degree in Bioinformatics, and meets the following criteria:

  • Thorough background in bio-informatics, as evidenced by research training, experience and CV.

  • Team player with excellent communicative skills who can collaborate efficiently within a multidisciplinary research environment.

  • Strong motivation to perform cutting-edge research in a competitive, international research environment.

  • Clear interest in (single-cell) transcriptomic analyses.

What do we offer

We offer a temporary contract for 1 year, with a possibility for extension. Preferred starting date: as soon as possible. Your salary will be a maximum of € 3.280,- gross per month (scale 7), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC). English:
