Job description

In the Library & Information Services department of the TU/e, the product area data & insights is looking for a data engineer to join the University’s BI & Analytics team. This team consists of technical experts and non-technical experts who work together to steer the data-driven journey of the Eindhoven University of Technology: we help the university make well-informed policy decisions and process improvements by providing insights from our corporate data to improve education, research, and impact.  

As data engineer in the BI & Analytics team you work together with four developers, six information analysts and various key users from support departments and faculties. The team provides management reports, self-service data models, analytics workspaces, forecasting and AI support. We develop and maintain our data platform in Databricks and reports are developed in PowerBI (DAX). As data engineer in our team, you have a broad role and work on both front-end and back-end activities. Additionally, you help expanding and professionalizing our forecasting & AI services for the University departments. You will be involved in every part of the development process, from information gathering to ETL development.


Job requirements
  • You have a Bachelor degree or higher in an IT or business-economics related field;
  • You have experience with dimensional modelling and data warehousing;
  • You are enthusiastic about developing an ETL process and designing the star schemas which enable the University to get relevant insights in education, research, HR, finance and other areas;
  • Experience with SQL and Python is a must;
  • Experience with DevOps and Git is a should have;
  • Experience with DAX and Databricks is nice to have;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with ETL-development experience;
  • You have experience with doing either front-end development or back-end development, depending on the demand of the University’s domains;
  • You have an innovative mindset and love to propose new solutions fitting the University’s needs.
  • You love to keep yourself up-to-date on the state-of-the-art solutions with regard to business intelligence, analytics and data science;
  • You are strong in conceptual and analytical thinking and have a solution-oriented mindset.
  • You have good communication skills in English, Dutch is a pré;
  • You are able to work for at least 50% of your working hours in the office on our campus in Eindhoven.

Conditions of employment
  • A monthly salary of minimum € 3.226,- to maximum € 5.090,- for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (salary scale 10 collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities);
  • A position in a compact agile BI & Analytics team covering a major part of the university’s cross-domain steering information;
