Job description

The Aurora Project Manager is a key supporting and coordinating role within the Aurora Central Office in Amsterdam. The Project Manager supports the Programme Director in the delivery of the European University programme of work. The Project Manager will work closely with the individual member universities, the Programme Director, and will be responsible to the Secretary-General. 

Your duties
  • provide operational and tactical support to the Programme Director and the Secretary-General in the implementation and delivery of the European University alliance programme of work
  • work on the realisation of the project plan with the Programme Director and ensure timely reporting
  • assess programme results according to plan and support the Mid-Term Review
  • advise on and proactively make suggestions for plan and process improvement
  • support the writing of the next funding bid, through an intensive consultation procedure with our members
  • ensure the timely delivery of deliverables by Aurora members
  • managing educational projects
  • provide national and international educational policy advice on issues such as student and staff mobility, social transformation, teaching and learning, and sustainability
  • identify, coordinate and follow-up of related calls and sub-projects with Aurora members
  • engage with and maintain strong relationships with academics and institutional coordinators at the Aurora member universities
  • coordinate between the different Task Teams in the member universities to ensure alignment
  • promote opportunities and raise awareness of Aurora tools and deliverables
  • potentially, support the integration of a new member

Requirements

We are looking for a colleague who

  • has a Master’s degree or a higher qualification
  • has at least ten years of relevant work experience in project management and is competent in managing complex international activities in terms of operation, administration, finance and goals attainment
  • has extensive experience working in an international setting, across different languages and cultures
  • has the ability to combine ideas and expertise with practicality
  • is proactive and interculturally sensitive
  • has extensive experience in the higher education sector
  • has extensive knowledge of European policies in the field of higher education and European cooperation
  • is proficient in English at the level of at least B2 in the Common European Framework of languages
  • is experienced in using project management tools
  • has excellent MS office skills (including Excel) and is able to work with quantitative overviews

  • flexibility and the ability to improvise
  • good interpersonal communication skills
  • dynamic, energetic and has a positive mindset

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,974 (scale 11)

and a maximum €5,439 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

This position will be funded by externally funded projects. This means that the appointment will initially be for one year, after which there is the possibility of an extension of another year at the minimum. Applicants currently employed by VU will be seconded to Aurora from their present position.
