Assistent Professor Clinical Psychology

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Job Type: Temporary
Deadline: 01 Sep 2022

The Department of Psychology has a job opening for the position of Assistant Professor. The position is embedded within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and contains a combination of teaching (60%) and research (40%). If you prefer 70% teaching and 30% research, this is negotiable.

As an Assistant Professor you will be employed in the Clinical Psychology division of the Department of Psychology. You will be participating in teaching in the Bachelor’s programme in Psychology in the domains relevant to Clinical Psychology and the international Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology. Teaching involves (large-scale) lectures, (small-scale) instruction and individual supervision of clinical or research internships and research theses, along with more general coordination and administration activities.

Research within Clinical Psychology covers three broad research programmes. The first encompasses (mostly applied) research on underlying mechanisms and treatment of consequences of loss and psychotrauma in children, adults, and families. The second includes laboratory, field, and clinical research on causes and underlying mechanisms involved in trauma and anxiety-related disorders and novel ways to predict and optimize treatment efficacy. The third programme focuses on depression, suicidality and personality disorders and employs RCTs and clinical experiments to investigate the effectiveness of psychotherapy, predictors of response and mechanisms of change, with the ultimate goal to advance precision mental health. The Assistant Professor will join one of these research programmes.

Core tasks include:

  • Participating in teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. If you have a clinical profile, you will teach in courses such as Psychopathology, Anxiety and related Disorders, Psychodiagnostics, Academic Professional and the Diagnostics summer course. With a more research-oriented profile, you will teach in courses such as the theme courses in the bachelor, Research methods and statistics, Psychodiagnostics and Clinical Psychology Foundations. Teaching involves individual supervision as well as lectures and workgroups. You will also be expected to supervise students during their (clinical or research) internship and research thesis.
  • Coordination of parts of the curriculum; we are currently looking for a coordinator for the clinical internships in the MA program for the next few years (1-2 days a week).
  • Conducting scientific research connected with one or more of the division's research programmes.
  • Publishing research findings in (high impact) international scientific journals.
  • Contributing to the acquisition of external research funding for the benefit of one or more of the division’s research programmes.
