Assistant Professors (tenure track) in Econometrics and Data Science

The department of Econometrics and Data Science of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications of new colleagues who share our ambition for impactful research and high-quality teaching.

We seek new colleagues who contribute to building and extending the department’s reputation for excellence in research and teaching. Our research aims at having impact and reaching the top international academic journals in ourfield. Our teaching focuses on econometrics, statistics and data science courses and thesis supervision. For AssistantProfessors, we offer a well-structured tenure track.

Your duties

• performing innovative research and publishing in the international top journals in econometrics and statistics;
• creating a stimulating learning environment for students in econometrics at all levels (BSc, MSc, MPhil, Executive), and continuing to improve teaching quality;
• being active in acquiring additional research funds, both individually and as a team effort.

• a PhD degree, specializing in econometrics, statistics, data science or a related field;
• strong research potential, preferrably evidenced by publications;
• a research focus on the study, development, and theoretical backbone of new methodology rather than on itsapplication only;
• teaching experience, evidenced by good evaluations;
• fluency in English.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization and a dynamic, ambitious international group of colleagues. Remuneration amounts depend on the level of the position and your experience and follow the national job profiles based on the university job ranking system. The positions are full-time, but part-time positions (preferably≥0.8fte) can also be discussed.

For Assistant Professors, we offer a well-structured tenure track. The initial employment contract is then for a period of 6 years, with the possibility of tenure. The tenure track position involves research (50%) and teaching (50%). At the end of the second year a mid-term performance evaluation will take place by the Tenure Track Committee (TTC). In the fifth year, the TTC will review your file in order to decide upon the tenured assignment, based on the assessment criteria of the Tenure Track system at SBE.
