Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 18 Dec 2022

We are looking for several Assistant Professors on an interesting range of (bio)geo related topics.

The Department of Geoscience & Engineering (GSE) has committed to a mission statement to “contribute to the Responsible Use of the Geosphere considering the Impact on the Earth System and Society”.

GSE is inspired by the societal challenges posed by climate change, energy transition, resource security and a sustainable society in an urbanized delta. The research in our department can be characterized as “application-inspired, fundamental research.”

To meet the challenges of the future, GSE is expanding into new and exciting opportunities. To enable this, we are inviting highly motivated and talented academics to join our team. Colleagues that share our enthusiasm, vision, and ambition.

Positions for Assistant Professors in Geoscience & Engineering

  • Biogeochemical conversions and transport phenomena in contaminated sites, including landfills and tailing facilities: physico-chemical investigations and modeling of processes.
  • Climate resilience, sustainable use of geo-resources, using earth-system modelling, data assimilation.

Besides research, key job responsibilities of this job include;

Education: contributing to the development and teaching of graduate courses in our new MSc programs Environmental Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences)

Organization: Contributing to organizational / administrative activities and committees with the Department and Faculty.

Projects: Initiating and contributing to new research projects. We encourage proactive engagement with both government and private partners for increased societal impact.

Our general job requirements are:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline.

Importantly, we want to learn about your vision and plans for the domain of your expertise. What is your scientific drive and motivation? Where do you see your and the department’s research developing, what would be your contribution and why is this relevant? What is your vision on education?

Our intention is to offer you a permanent position after a probation period in which you will be evaluated based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme.
