Job description

The Department of Clinical, Neuro- and Developmental Psychology, Faculty of Behavioral and Movement Sciences is looking for an enthusiastic assistant professor who will work in the section Clinical Neuropsychology.

The assistant professor is responsible for coordinating and providing education in the bachelor Psychology program that has a Dutch and English track (https://vu.nl/nl/onderwijs/bachelor/psychologie ), in the Dutch-language master track Clinical Neuropsychology (https://vu.nl/nl/onderwijs/master/psychologie/inhoud?year=1e-jaar&specialization=klinische-neuropsychologie ) and in the English research master track Cognitive Neuropsychology (https://vu.nl/en/education/master/cognitive-neuropsychology-research ). Depending on your expertise, you will contribute to one or more courses within these tracks. In addition, the assistant professor is involved in the individual supervision of students in the context of bachelor and master theses.

As an assistant professor, you will contribute approximately 40% of the appointment to scientific research, which is linked to ongoing research programme of the section (https://vu.nl/en/about-vu/more-about/research-clinical-neuro-developmental-psychology ).

Your duties

  • implementing, coordinating and developing education in the bachelor Psychology and master Clinical Neuropsychology
  • supervising students for bachelor and master theses
  • develop and conduct research within the Clinical Neuropsychology research programme
  • obtain funding for the research programme, in particular by applying for personal and consortium grants

Requirements
  • PhD in the field of Clinical Neuropsychology or related field
  • demonstrable experience as a teacher, in possession of a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or willing to obtain a BKO within the foreseeable future
  • good track record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed international publications
  • excellent command of (written and spoken) English language; command of the Dutch language is a plus
  • clinical experience is a plus

What are we offering

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,821 (scale 11)

and a maximum €5,230 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year, with possibilities for a permanent position. Additionally, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers excellent fringe benefits and various schemes and regulations to promote a good work/life balance, such as:

The department of Clinical, Neuro and Developmental Psychology (KNOP) 
The section Clinical Neuropsychology is embedded in the larger department of Clinical Neuro and Developmental Psychology (KNOP). KNOP focuses on conducting research and education in clinical psychology in the broadest sense, from genetic predisposition to treatment and care. The research lines of the section Clinical Neuropsychology cover the entire life span, from early childhood to extreme aging and include (a) diagnosis of cognitive and behavioral disorders, (b) understanding mechanisms of (dys)functioning, and (c) developing interventions for retaining or improving behavioral and brain functions. By mapping behavior and brain functions using advanced techniques, we aim to study which brain functions are affected by adverse events, and which functions remain intact and can be improved, for example by training. Many of the section members are affiliated with a clinical institute to further strengthen the link between research and practice.
