Job description

The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) invites applications for a tenure-track position (with a focus on education) as an assistant professor in Transport and Logistics Systems. The position is established within the Transport and Logistics (TLO) group, which is part of the department of Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) at TPM. The TLO group strongly contributes to the culture of excellence which makes TU Delft one of the most well-known places worldwide to study transport and logistics. We are looking for candidates who have a system perspective and have strong policy, design, modeling, or analytical skills to teach and research transport and logistics topics on macro (and meso) levels. TLO offers the opportunity to perform cutting-edge multidisciplinary research with high societal impact. With our new hire, we have the ambition to maintain and further enhance our reputation as a place for highly influential research and teaching in transport and logistics systems.

The division of time for an assistant professor with a focus on teaching is as follows: 60% teaching, 20-30% research and 10-20% organisation and management.

Requirements

Applicants should have (or expect to complete soon) a PhD in Transport, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management or a closely related field, from a reputed academic institution. The candidate should possess (or have a clear ambition to obtain) broad expertise in the field of Transport and Logistics at a system level, and she or he is expected to have a multidisciplinary attitude. Successful candidates have a knowledge base that is not confined to e.g., only one mode of transport or micro-level modeling.

Candidates need to demonstrate a clear potential for excellence in teaching and research.

The to-be-hired tenure track assistant professor will actively contribute to education at all levels, including supervision and tutoring of students, collaborating with other research groups inside the department (Energy & Industry, and ICT) and faculty, and help to maintain a high level of academic impact and international visibility of the TLO group and the ESS department.


Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

A tenure-track position is offered for six years. In the fifth year we’ll decide if you will be offered a permanent faculty position, based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme.
TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.
