Are you an experienced researcher in FAIR research data and/or open science infrastructures and do you want to contribute to shaping the open science research infrastructures of the future? Then Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam would like to get to know you.
Job description
FAIR research infrastructures are key to realize the ambitions of the Open Science plans of our national and international funding bodies. For a wide variety of scientific disciplines, these systems face increasingly harder technical requirements and complex designs: the need to provide interoperability while dealing with larger, more complex, and fastly changing data, cope with highly heterogeneous data, handle both open and privacy-sensitive or copyright-sensitive research data, integrate supercomputing and trusted third party facilities, etc. At the same time, these technical requirements rapidly change as research communities evolve and new forms of consensus need to be found. We are looking for an assistant professor on FAIR research data and open science research infrastructures that feels at home in this challenging landscape. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in the design of research infrastructure, has a network in the FAIR data community and has a strong record of multidisciplinary collaboration, for example by having co-authored with colleagues from other disciplines than computer science.
We are looking for a colleague who is a leader in the field, and can contribute to a stream of high quality publications in this area, acquire external research grants, conduct excellent teaching, and act as a bridge builder to other research groups in and outside the department. The position comes with a career path to a tenured position after 1.5 years.
Your duties
The career track position starts at the level of assistant professor in the areas of research, education, and management (40%:40%:20%), and contains the following duties:
  • Setting up and leading a research line in the area of FAIR research infrastructures;

  • Teaching courses in the Bachelor and Master Artificial Intelligence and other relevant programs;
  • Supervision of Bachelor, Master, and PhD students;
  • Initiating and contributing to research grant proposals;
  • Contributing to administrative tasks.
We especially encourage female applicants. In the case of equal suitability of candidates, preference will be given to a female candidate.
