Job description

The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the University of Groningen invites applicants for a permanent assistant professorship position in in the area of talent development. This position will be located in the unit of Developmental Psychology.

The position combines teaching and research in the area of talent and/or creativity development. In teaching, the candidate is expected to teach courses in the English and Dutch Bachelor and Master programs of Psychology, in particular the master track Talent Development and Creativity (https://www.rug.nl/(...)-creativity/?lang=en ). This international program is taught by staff members from the unit of Developmental Psychology, in collaboration with members from the unit of Psychometrics and Statistics. In addition to the courses, part of the position consists of supervising both BA and MA students in their thesis. The candidate is also expected to supervise and coordinate internships. Because the majority of students within the Master's program conduct their theses and internships within the sports context, proven experience and affinity with supervision within this context is relevant.

The candidate conducts coherent research within the field of talent development and creativity, for the benefit of science and society. The candidate is expected to develop a research funding plan allowing her/him to attract external funding in the short/medium term.

Qualifications

• a completed PhD within Psychology, Pedagogy, Human Movement Sciences, or related disciplines
• experience with research in the area of talent identification and/or development, or creativity
• affinity with the unique and internationally recognized vision of the research program of the Developmental Psychology unit, and specifically the faculty's talent development expertise center (https://www.rug.nl/(...)-talentontwikkeling/ )
• experience and affinity with conducting and supervising research in the area of talent identification and/or development in sport
• have a network within the field of talent development and creativity, particularly with researchers and practitioners within sports.
• successful in collecting resources for research (e.g., grants, collaborations)
• a strong publication record in the field
• experience and affinity with teaching (lecturing, internship/thesis supervision)
• interest in innovative teaching methods
• in possession of a Basic Teaching Qualification or willingness to obtain it on the short term
• good oral and written skills in Dutch as well as English, or the willingness to learn Dutch to B2/C1 level
• excellent social and communicative skills
• can cooperate within a team of experts.

Important competences are conceptual capacity, environment orientation, presenting and result orientation.

We study issues relating to human behaviour, and the relationships between people and society as a whole. This includes the study of how people function under normal circumstances, but also of the problems encountered by individuals or groups, and how to resolve or prevent these. Our Faculty employs about 650 employees.

The Department of Developmental Psychology studies processes of typical and atypical development. Research focuses on the entire life span, from infancy to the old age. The unit contributes to the Bachelor program of Psychology, the Master's tracks ‘Developmental Psychology’ and ‘Talent Development and Creativity’, and the Research Master (track ‘Lifespan Development and Socialization’). The Master's track Talent Development and Creativity is offered in collaboration with the unit of Psychometrics and Statistics. The joint research and education line focuses on the development and selection of talent and creativity within sport, education, work and the arts. In doing so, much knowledge exchange between the departments takes place.

Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 3,974 (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 6,181 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position
• excluding 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus, participation in a pension scheme for employees and excellent secondary benefits. We offer 232 holiday hours per calendar year for a full-time employment
• an appointment on a temporary basis for 18 months (0.8 FTE or 1.0 FTE position), with an outlook to a permanent contract.
