Job description

Campus Fryslân is the newest faculty of the University of Groningen, located in Leeuwarden. The faculty is dedicated to finding sustainable solutions for major social problems.
The “Sustainable Entrepreneurship in a Circular Economy” (SECE) Department of Campus Fryslân is hiring an assistant professor in sustainable entrepreneurship. It concerns a permanent, full-time position with 60% for teaching and 40% for research (including co-supervision of PhD researchers and regular faculty committee tasks). The successful candidate will mainly coordinate and teach courses in the MSc Sustainable Entrepreneurship.

The SECE Department
The SECE Department is intrinsically motivated to make sustainable entrepreneurship and the transition to a circular economy successful (http://www.rug.nl/cf/cse ). This mission translates into a full-time MSc degree program in sustainable entrepreneurship, ongoing fundamental and applied research on sustainable entrepreneurship and the circular economy, and a wide variety of impact programs for regional, national and international companies and organisations. In the past year, the SECE Department has developed 23 journal articles/chapters/working papers, 4 community reports, 25 public engagement events, 14 grant applications, 5 PhD committees and 34 master student sustainable entrepreneurship research projects. The SECE team recently published the DeGruyter Handbook of Sustainable Entrepreneurship Research.


Qualifications

The SECE Department is explicitly open to scholars from different domains. The current team consists of business, entrepreneurship, geography and psychology scholars who integrate sustainability in their research. Radical innovations and perspectives, close collaboration with external stakeholders and a wide variety of research methods and philosophies are other characteristics of the SECE team.

Qualifications that are important for fulfilling this function are:

• a (nearly) completed PhD in a discipline relevant for the SECE Department such as (sustainable) entrepreneurship, economics, business and management, geography, psychology or sociology. A PhD in environmental science with proven interest in business and/or entrepreneurship is also a possibility
• research interests relevant for the SECE Department in the area of, for example, sustainable entrepreneurship, societal transitions to sustainability, sustainable behaviour or the circular economy
• a track record (or pipeline for more junior candidates) in research as demonstrated among others by publications in international recognised journals
• teaching experience preferably on the MSc level
• the ability to actively engage with regional stakeholders
• strong command of spoken and written English
• Dutch language abilities at CEFR B2-level or willingness to obtain this within two years
• in possession of a University Teaching Qualification or willingness to obtain this within two years.


Organisation
Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a minimum salary of € 3,974 (salary scale 11 - assistant professor 2) up to a maximum of € 5,439 (salary scale 11 - assistant professor 2) gross a month on a full-time basis
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
• an appointment for an initial fixed term period of 18 months, with the possibility for a permanent appointment upon positive evaluation.

The starting date for this position is 1 August 2023
