Assistant professor Statistics and Pharmacometrics

We are looking for an assistant professor to contribute to research (50%) and education (50%) activities at the Division of Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacy at the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research (LACDR). The research will be focused on the development and application of novel statistical methodologies in quantitative systems pharmacology and pharmacometrics research at the division in close collaboration with principal investigators of the division. You will be involved in co-supervision of PhD candidates in this area. Moreover, you have a major responsibility in the educational programmes of the bachelor and master programme in Bio-Pharmaceutical sciences (Bachelor, Master). You will contribute and coordinate courses focused on areas such as computational skills, statistics & machine learning, and quantitative pharmacological modeling/pharmacometrics. A contribution to potential post-graduate/PhD-level courses may also be possible.

Key responsibilities
The candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to (co-)supervision of PhD candidates in research around statistical modeling approaches in quantitative pharmacology & pharmacy.
  • Strengthen research at the interface of quantitative pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and pharmacy, and statistical/machine learning methodologies, such as integration of pharmacometrics/systems pharmacology modeling and real-world data integration.
  • Perform and coordinate teaching in the Bachelor and/or Master of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Contribute to student supervision in Bachelor and Master research projects.
  • Contribute to the design & development of Bachelor, Master, and post-graduate courses in the area of computational skills, statistics/machine learning and/or pharmacometrics, including contributions to the ongoing revision of the course curriculum towards a track in computational/modeling approaches in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Contribute as part of a larger team of assistant professors within the LACDR to the broad array of aspects concerning design and development our teaching programmes.

Selection criteria
The candidate should meet the following selection criteria:

  • Master’s degree in Statistical Sciences or equivalent
  • PhD degree in quantitative modeling & statistics in pharmacology and/or biomedicine
  • Strong experience in statistical/machine learning methodologies
  • Experience in both pharmacological and biomedical research topics
  • Enthusiasm and experience in teaching, ideally also in development and coordination of courses, with experience in supervising PhD students
  • Basic teaching qualification (BKO) or equivalent, or willingness to acquire such a qualification
  • Capable to speak/willing to learn Dutch
  • Good organization and social skills
  • Team player

The Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) is a leading institute dedicated to world-class research and education in drug discovery and development. The research carried out at the Faculty of Science is very diverse, ranging from mathematics, information science, astronomy, physics, chemistry and bio-pharmaceutical sciences to biology and environmental sciences. We are in particularly interested in bridging physics and pharmaceutical sciences and thus, we hope that the senior scientist will enable interactions between LACDR and Leiden Institute of Physics, one of the oldest physics institutes in the Netherlands.

Terms and conditions
We offer a one year contract which may afterwards lead to a permanent contract, based on performance. You will be appointed in accordance  with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. Salary range from € 3.974, to € 5.439 gross per month on a 1,0 fte base (pay scale 11), depending on education and experience level of the candidate.
