Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (TST) provides academic education and conducts research in theology with a view to connecting the Catholic tradition with contemporary culture and society. The School will invest in the development of the professional profile of spiritual caregivers in the public domain and of teachers of religion in the coming years.

The theological faculty is located in Tilburg and Utrecht, and is accredited by the Holy See, allowing it to confer canonical degrees. TST educates students for all functions that require professional knowledge of religion, including lay functions in pastoral work, chaplaincy and religious education, as well as ordained ministry. TST is characterized by short lines of communication and an open atmosphere.

Job Description
The Tilburg School of Catholic Theology is seeking an enthusiastic colleague for the position of Assistant Professor of Religious Education in the Department of Religion and Practice. The duties involved include:

  • providing Dutch- and English-taught courses in Utrecht and Tilburg;
  • conducting international research in the field of religious education and publish about this field in literature science to science and science to professionals;
  • actively attracting external research funding;
  • coordinating internship pastoral/spiritual care;
  • (pastoral) supervision (it is possible to apply for this position without the supervision tasks. In that case, the size of the appointment is 0,75 FTE);
  • active participation within the School and Department;
  • performing management tasks within the School and Department (such as the development of a minor religious education).

Requirements
Specific Requirements

We are looking for the following profile: 

  • You hold a PhD in a discipline relevant to this position e.g. practical theology and religious education;
  • You have proven experience in academic education, are an excellent lecturer, and can master modern didactic techniques;
  • You have a track record of international scientific output;
  • You have experience supervising students, including supervision in thesis research;
  • You value Team Science, possess excellent communication skills and are focused on effective collaboration with colleagues, including in an interdisciplinary context;
  • You have a good command of English (Proficiency in English is mandatory -CEFR level C2-) and Dutch (or willingness to learn Dutch at the short term);
  • You demonstrate scientific integrity;
  • You preferably have a UTQ certificate;
  • You preferably have a certificate of LVSC for supervision or willingness to obtain this;
  • You meet the requirements as expressed in the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium and the Special statutes of the TST. Candidates must obtain permission to teach (missio canonica and nihil obstat) from the Grand Chancellor of the TST.

Benefits

The position is classified as an "Assistant Professor" in the Dutch University Job Classification System (UFO). Candidates will initially receive an employment contract for 12 months (for internal candidates) or 18 months (for external candidates). Upon proven suitability and continuation in the same position, an employment contract of indefinite duration will be offered. 
 
The salary is a minimum of €4,332 and a maximum of €5,929 gross per month for full-time employment, based on UFO profile of Assistant Professor and salary scale 11 of the CLA of Dutch Universities . Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for scaling based on work experience.

The university applies for this allowance on their behalf. All university employees are covered by the so-called Civil Service Pension Fund (ABP).
