The Department of Geography, Planning and Environment (GPE), Radboud University, is looking for an Assistant Professor in the field of spatial planning. We are looking for a colleague who can strengthen our research programme on the governance of spatial transformations. GPE’s planning research is characterised by its focus on institutional and (experimental) governance issues related to spatial planning. The Assistant Professor position requires an aptitude for research and a strong track record in publications, as well as a heart for teaching. Above all, we are seeking a highly motivated and committed candidate with a cooperative attitude and strong team skills. You will be expected to contribute to the research and teaching programmes of the Department of GPE. You will teach courses in the Bachelor's programme in Geography, Planning and Environment and the Master's programme in Spatial Planning. You will conduct disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research, publish in international high-quality journals, attract external funding for research projects, acquire and supervise PhD projects, build international networks with academics and societal partners, and contribute to general management and coordination tasks in the department.

Requirements

• You hold a PhD degree in a relevant social science field (e.g. spatial planning, spatial economics, public administration or human geography).
• You have published thematically relevant articles in internationally recognised high-quality journals.
• You have experience with attracting research funding.
• You have experience with realising societal impact.
• A Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO or equivalent) and experience with teaching quantitative methods would be an advantage.
• You have a clear research agenda and niche (theoretically, methodologically and empirically), preferably on the theme of housing, in a both national and international context.
• Good knowledge of the Dutch planning system and the changes therein, and an ability to engage in discussions with practitioners on the implementation of the Environment and Planning Act (Omgevingswet) and Environmental Vision (Omgevingsvisie) would be an advantage.
• You have substantial international experience and a network of international contacts.
• You have excellent English language skills and are willing to learn Dutch (a working knowledge of additional languages would be an advantage).
• You have a proven ability to collaborate in inter- and transdisciplinary teams.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: It concerns a temporary employment for 1.5 years with a permanent contract after positive evaluation.

• It concerns an employment for 1.0 FTE.
• The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €5,439 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11 ).
• You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• It concerns a permanent employment for It concerns a temporary employment for 1.5 years with a permanent contract after positive evaluation.
• You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services . • Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.

Nijmegen research on the governance of spatial transformations uses institutional, discursive and relational, practice-based, perspectives. Core themes addressed in our planning research are land and property markets, mobility and infrastructure, water and climate change, health, energy, the circular economy and biodiversity. Most of our planning research is part of externally funded transdisciplinary research projects.
