Are you a researcher willing to use your expertise in theology to make a societal impact? Then you have a part to play as an assistant professor. Make a meaningful contribution with your research and inspire our students to learn more about Biblical, Early Christian, Jewish and religious studies. All while working in a friendly, dynamic work environment that offers ample room for team science and individual initiative.
Your teaching will cover a range of topics in Biblical, Early Christian, Jewish and Religious Studies, including Greek and/or Hebrew language courses. You will be actively involved in the supervision and tutoring of students, and in the development of new courses and pedagogical approaches.

Some 45% of your time will be dedicated to pursuing high-quality academic, internationally visible research into the New Testament and related literature with an emphasis on the early Jewish context of early Christianity. As part of the research group of Biblical Studies, Ancient Judaism and Ancient Christianity, you will also be involved in developing department-wide research projects and in acquiring external research funding.


Profile
  • You should hold a doctorate in Biblical Studies, Early Christian Studies, Jewish Studies, Theology, Religious Studies, or a related discipline.
  • You have a proven ability to produce high-quality scholarship (e.g. publications in top-tier international journals).
  • You have a strong command of relevant ancient languages, including but not limited to Koine Greek and Classical Hebrew.
  • You have an international network of academic contacts and/or international teaching experience.
  • You have excellent teaching and communication skills, with teaching experience in the fields of theology and/or religion at various levels.
  • You have a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or equivalent, or the willingness to obtain such a qualification within two years.
  • You have the ability to contribute to public debate on the basis of your academic expertise.
  • You have sufficient command of written and spoken Dutch (C1 level) and English (C2 level), or the willingness to acquire this ability within a reasonable period of time (the ability to teach in Dutch is a prerequisite for permanent appointment).

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €5,439 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 1.5 years, with the prospect of a permanent position after positive evaluation.
