Assistant Professor of Conflict Studies

The Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management – Chair group Political Science at the Nijmegen School of Management calls for a new Assistant Professor of Conflict Studies to help further expand their research and education profile.
The Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM) at the Political Science Chair group of the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University) is looking for a new Assistant Professor of Conflict Studies to help further expand our research and education profile. You will contribute to the continuous high quality of education, notably teaching (elective) Bachelor's degree courses and supervising both Political Science and Human Geography students writing their Master's degree theses. You will conduct high-quality research that should lead to publications in high-ranking international journals. Experience with disseminating research results through contacts with practitioners, policy makers and/or the media will be a plus. Together with your colleagues, you will contribute to the further development of the CICAM-Political Science research agenda through applications for external research funding and by developing your own research projects.

Existing expertise within CICAM-Political Science includes conflict analysis, and research on state and non-state governance and external intervention in conflict-affected settings, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. CICAM research is characterised by in-depth, qualitative fieldwork, critical reflection on dominant frameworks, discourses and practices of conflict analysis and intervention, and a keen interest in the interactions between 'local' and 'global' actors.

Ideally, your research profile will reinforce and complement our thematic and geographical expertise. Geographically, your area of expertise should ideally include (Eastern) Europe and the former USSR, Latin America, or South-East Asia. And thematically, we are particularly interested if you have expertise in the following themes: social movements and civil society and their roles in peace and conflict; the nexus of humanitarian aid, development and peacebuilding; or the interface of climate change (adaptation), natural resources and conflict. Experience in teaching on peace negotiations and mediation (including simulations) would be an advantage.
