Job description

As an assistant professor, you are (jointly) responsible for the Religious Studies and Theology program. In this new position, you will build on a strong research and teaching tradition focused on the culture, social backgrounds, ideas and theology of Neo-Calvinism. The VU University Library has extensive holdings in this area, in particular within the Collectie HDC | Protestants erfgoed van de UB VU. You use this in your research. You profile yourself in particular at the intersection of cultural history, social history, and theological history.

Your duties
You develop your own line of research in consultation with colleagues. Your focus is on Neo-Calvinism and its international reception, especially in Asia and North America. You will teach in the field of modern religion history, and perhaps also in the core subjects of the curriculum. Education takes up an average of 50% of your time. You will also supervise PhD students in the field of international Neo-Calvinism.


Requirements

-You have a PhD in History or Theology;

-You have a Basic Teaching Qualification (UTQ), or you can obtain it within one year;

-You have a strong publication record in the field of neo-Calvinism. This allows you to set up your own line of research;

-You have experience in acquiring research funding;

-You have an international network

-You have a well-developed conceptual ability;

-You are well aware of social and professional developments and use this knowledge;

-You are result oriented;

-You are a strong communicator.


What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,974 (scale 11)

and a maximum €6,181 (scale 12), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.6 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year.

TEXTS and TRADITIONS
Philologists and historians work closely together in the Texts and Traditions department. They study the formation, sources, and transmission of religious traditions, and the ways in which these traditions have developed in interaction with the surrounding culture.
