Job description

The Department of Global Economics & Management in the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen (Netherlands) is looking for a new Assistant Professor in the Career Track: Education Profile. We are looking for an assistant professor eager to pursue a career in teaching and educational development in the areas of international business, international management and related research methods.

You will contribute to teaching (and coordinating) courses in our BSc International Business and MSc International Business & Management programmes, including the supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses. We expect that candidates take recent developments on board in their teaching, such as active teaching and other educational themes prioritized by the faculty (see https://www.rug.nl/feb/organization/mission-vision-values/strategic-plan-2021-2026.pdf ). You are also expected to conduct research in areas of interest to the department or on educational topics and publish in reputable (international) journals.

The Department of Global Economics & Management is an active and international group, consists of approximately 80 people, and encompasses International Business as well as International Economics. The department is unified by its interest to perform theory-driven empirical research on globalization, sustainable development and multinational firms, addressing different aspects like corporate social responsibility ownership, governance and cultural and institutional change in these areas of research. The department contributes to programmes from a philosophy of research-driven education.

As an assistant professor in the education profile you are expected to:

  • teach in courses offered by the department across bachelor and master programmes, making use of modern educational tools
  • develop an area of expertise in education, thereby playing a significant role in the development and innovation of education at FEB, both at the course and the programme level
  • participate in working groups and committees, especially in the domain of education
  • undertake academic research, with the aim of publishing in reputable (international) journals in a FEB-relevant field or in the area of education.

Qualifications

We encourage you to apply if you:

  • have a PhD in (international) business or economics
  • have a passion for teaching and educational development, evidenced by teaching experience in (preferably) international business, international management and related research methods
  • have the potential to publish your research in (international) journals in a FEB-relevant field or in the area of education
  • are a team player with good communication skills who is able to inspire students and colleagues.

Conditions of employment

Career track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are permanent positions subject to a tenure decision after eighteen months, based on a positive evaluation. In the Career Track: Education Profile, 70% of the work consists of teaching and education management, 20% can be spent on research, and 10% can be used for innovation of courses and/or teaching skills development.

As part of the Career Track: Education Profile you are encouraged to develop your professional competencies. This includes gaining a University Teaching Qualification and Senior Teaching Qualification. In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch universities, we offer:

  • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience, starting from a minimum of € 4,332 gross per month (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 6,737 gross per month (salary scale 12) for a full-time position
  • a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance, as well as participation in a solid pension scheme. Non-Dutch applicants may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. A full-time position entitles you to 41 days of annual leave based on full-time employment
  • a budget of € 5,000 to spend on e.g. hiring student assistants, traveling, staying abroad, following training and courses on teaching (e.g,. case- or challenged-based teaching, including diversity and inclusion in teaching, using gaming) and attending (educational) conferences.

Starting date is negotiable but preferably September 2024
