The Software Engineering and Technology cluster (SET) of the Computer Science Division of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is looking for an assistant professor in social software engineering.

Your research is within the broad space of collaborative and human aspects of software engineering, including but not limited to topics as:

  • Social, psychological, emotional, cognitive, and human centric aspects of software development at the levels of individuals, pairs, groups, teams, organizations, or communities;
  • Tools and technologies that affect software development groups, organizations, and communities (e.g., Open Source, knowledge-sharing communities, crowdsourcing);
  • Issues of leadership, (self-)organization, cooperation, culture, management, socio-technical (in)congruence, stakeholder groups; program comprehension and psychology of programming;
  • The role of soft skills (e.g., communication, collaboration, teamwork, organization, negotiation, conflict management) for software engineers;
  • Diversity and inclusion in software engineering.

We look for research that both complements and synergizes with that of the current SET research.

You will be encouraged to cooperate with the (high-tech) companies in the Brainport area and collaboration with other Dutch universities, ESI-TNO and CWI will also be facilitated.

SET is responsible for education in the broad area of software engineering, from first year bachelor programming courses to advanced master courses. Further information about our bachelor programs you will find here and information on our master programs here . You will be expected to support several software engineering courses. Moreover, depending on your background you might be also asked to support educational tasks from other clusters.

Software Engineering and Technology cluster

Currently SET has 3 full-time Full Professors, 2 part-time Full Professors, 1 part-time Associate Professor, 5 full-time Assistant Professors and 2 part-time Assistant Professors. SET actively collaborates with companies in the Eindhoven region and has an extensive network of national and international collaborations.

We study a broad spectrum of software engineering problems, ranging from digital twins to software architecture, from automotive software engineering to collaborative and human aspects, from consistency in multi-paradigm modeling to efficient verification of software systems using GPUs.

Irene Curie fellowship

This position is part of the Irene Curie fellowship program dedicated to reach at least 30% female researchers among TU/e’s permanent academic staff by 2024 and contributes to the societal goal of promoting equal opportunities and a society in which everyone's abilities are utilized. It has been endorsed by the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights in March 2021, based on the current legislation of the European Court of Justice.

Job requirements
  • Motivated researcher and educator, with a PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a comparable domain;
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative empirical research;
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team;
  • Strong academic and industry network; research interactions on the national and international level, proven by joint collaborations, projects and publications;
  • Ability to teach, shown by experience or assistance in teaching. Informed vision on teaching and learning in your own discipline;
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff, leading a project or chairing a group;
  • Excellent proficiency (written and verbal) in English.
