Assistant Professor in Multi-modal Transport Network Robustness

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 04 Jan 2023

Withstanding disruptions? Make an impact in transport resilience science.

Transport systems constitute critical infrastructure and services and are subject to recurrent disturbances and disruptions. The importance of the transport system’s robustness and resilience becomes more evident with the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events and cyber-attacks.

This position will contribute to the development and application of methods, empirical analysis, models, strategies, and policies in the field of transport network resilience, making contributions to both fundamental and application-driven research. This includes research and education related to the design, planning, operations, and assessment of measures aimed at improving systems capacity to prepare, withstand, recover, and adapt to disruptions to reduce cascading effects. It includes developing long-term strategic planning and short-term control decision support systems and considering multi-layer dependencies such as in relation to energy/power-grid, telecommunication, and climate change impacts.

You hold a relevant PhD degree. In addition you have a track record and clear vision on conducting research, and mentoring and teaching in transportation science related themes (involving optimization, simulation, forecasting, network science, data science or similar).

We are looking for a colleague that is committed to contributing to a stimulating research environment, creating a societal impact, and appreciates a diverse, goal-oriented and merit-based work environment.

Excellent communication skills are crucial for success in this position; ability and interest in connecting and collaborating within and across research teams, interacting and connecting with students, academics, and stakeholders from the public and private sectors. An experience in working as a post-doctoral researcher in the topic considered an advantage.

Our intention is to offer you a permanent position after a period in which you will be evaluated based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ program. TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

For international applicants we offer the Coming to Delft Service and Partner Career Advice to assist you with your relocation. An International Children's Centre offers childcare and there is an international primary school.
