multiphase flow; magnetic resonance imaging and velocimetry
Job description
Particle-laden flows occur in many industrial applications and natural processes. For dense particles systems, the flow behavior changes drastically: the suspension may start behaving non-Newtonian, and phenomena such as the transition to turbulence will be modified.
As these flows are non-transparent, conventional optical flow measurement techniques are not suitable. We therefore aim to study these using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This technique can provide a variety of important parameters (e.g. velocity, concentration, and temperature fields) that will be crucial in the understanding of many processes. This understanding, in turn, will allow us to design and construct better processes for the sustainable production and conversion of materials and energy. To support this effort, the department has recently acquired a pre-clinical MRI scanner, dedicated for flow measurement studies.
The Department of Process and Energy (P&E) of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Netherlands, announces an open position for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the field of Magnetic Resonance Velocimetry for Multiphase Flows.
Domain of research
The research area of the position will be oriented towards experimental work in one or more of the following fields (non-exhaustive list):
- Particle-laden flows,
- Development of MRI measurement protocols/sequences
- Cavitation,
- Cardiovascular flow,
- Transition behavior in multiphase flows,
- Rheology (in particular of suspensions)
- or any other similar or related topic along these lines that falls into the field.
Prospective research activities involve the development of accurate measurement techniques based on MRI and the application of these techniques to (multiphase) flows that are - ultimately - relevant for the activities of the department to enable the energy transition. Collaboration with other departments and faculties is strongly encouraged.
