What are you going to do

• Teach, coordinate and assist in developing courses at Master and Bachelor level (mainly in the Master European Private Law and the Minor Law and Justice in the European Union);
• supervise theses at Master and Bachelor level;
• assist in developing experiential learning elements for private law courses within the context of the Amsterdam Law Practice;
• work as part of a team;
• carry out and publish research of the highest calibre;
• assist in supervising research at doctoral level;
• communicate effectively; 
• participate constructively in the administrative work at the Law School;
• actively participate in the research activities of the Amsterdam Center for Transformative Private Law (ACT).

What do we require

The ideal candidate:

• has a PhD in law or is in the last stages of finishing up her/his dissertation;
• is specialized in the field of European and/or transnational private law;
• is proficient in English and has a willingness to learn Dutch;
• has excellent scientific writing, planning and communication skills;
• has experience in teaching or is strongly motivated to acquire such experience, ideally both at graduate and undergraduate level;
• has a strong motivation to both teach and do research.

In addition:

• You have a teaching certificate (BKO) or the willingness to attain one;

• You have the capacity (or are willing and able to develop such capacity) to write project proposals for external funding.

The initial appointment will be for 1,5 year. Upon a positive evaluation and fulfilment of the faculty standards for the UD2 position, a tenured position will be available.  The starting date of the appointment is as soon as possible.

The gross full-time monthly salary will be in accordance with the salary scales for Assistant professors at Dutch universities, scale 11 (Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities ) ranging from €3.821 to €5.230 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. Secondary benefits at Dutch universities are attractive and include 8% holiday pay and an 8.3% end-of-year Bonus.
