The department’s educational program includes courses in the Dutch Bachelor of Psychology, the International Bachelor of Psychology, the Master's programs in Economic Psychology and Work & Organizational Psychology, and the Social Psychology track in the Research Master's degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences.
The department has several research themes covering both basic and applied topics:
Diversity and inequality (incl. poverty, greed and incentives, diversity (e.g., in terms of culture, race/ethnicity, gender, and age), fairness and justice, and stereotypes, discrimination, and (measurement) bias)
Prosocial and antisocial behavior (incl. strategic behavior (game theory), conflict and cooperation, social dilemmas, empathy, perspective-taking, trust and morality, individual differences, and more applied topics such as coalition formation, multi-party negotiations, tax morale, leadership, business ethics, and (dis)honesty)
The psychology of digitalization (incl. psychological consequences of technologies in the context of hiring, dating, communication, marketing, and gaming, aim to create psychological frameworks for the development and evaluation of technology-based decision tools)
Emotion and well-being (incl. emotions and decision making, measurement of emotions and well-being, emotional change over time (e.g., emotional responses to parenthood), individual differences in emotions, emotion recognition, work engagement, burn-out, and relationship-, consumer-, life-, and job-satisfaction).
In addition to these themes there are cross cutting themes/questions, such as for example the role of cultural differences, gender, and aging.

Tasks
- Research (approximately 50%): we expect you to conduct and publish research and share our commitment to produce solid and transparent research.
- Teaching (approximately 50%): we expect you to teach a variety of courses related to Economic Psychology (we aim for 2-3 courses per academic year) and to supervise students at the BSc and MSc level. The department teaches in the international and the Dutch Bachelor of Psychology and provides teaching to other curricula across the university. Most courses are taught in English; however, some courses in the Dutch Bachelor require proficiency in Dutch. Proficiency in Dutch is therefore an advantage but not a requirement.
- We expect you to contribute to academic citizenship (e.g., regular office hours, support your colleagues, participate in weekly lab meetings and colloquia, be a good colleague).
Requirements
Specific Requirements
Successful candidates have a strong affinity with research (basic and/or applied; field and/or lab). We are looking for candidates who are interested in topics in Economic Psychology (e.g., economic and consumer behavior, decision making, marketing/advertising). Our ideal candidate contributes to the department’s collaborative atmosphere and seeks to sustain our shared commitment to provide an excellent education for our students.
We seek applicants who:
- completed a PhD on the topic of economic psychology, or a related field;
- have an interest in studying the psychology of decision making broadly defined;
- can teach courses in Economic Psychology (and when needed in Social Psychology or Work and Organizational Psychology), and supervise theses and internships in these programs;
- hold a basic teaching qualification (BKO) or are willing to acquire one;
- are willing to submit applications for (inter)national research and/or teaching grants.
Language Policy:
Proficiency in English is mandatory (CFR: C2 level). If not proficient in Dutch, candidates should be willing to learn Dutch.
