Assistant Professor in Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence (0,8- 1,0 FTE)

We are looking for an assistant professor who is willing to contribute in a positive way to teaching, research, management and outreach at the Institute of Psychology, and the Cognitive Psychology Unit in particular.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing an independent interdisciplinary research line that attracts young researchers, collaborations (within and outside the department) and external funding. Making research results public in peer-reviewed journals, at scientific conferences, and other professional meetings;
  • Teaching BSc and MSc courses and supervising BSc and MSc research projects, with a focus on cognitive science and AI;
  • Sharing the research results with a wider audience through (social) media and other public outreach.

Selection Criteria

Required

  • A strong research record, evident from (among others) a completed PhD thesis and peer-reviewed international publications on topics in cognitive science, artificial intelligence or related fields;
  • Excellent and inspiring teaching abilities and experience with various types of teaching and supervision of students at different stages of their BSc/MSc program;
  • Ability to contribute to the BSc program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and the BSc/MSc programs in Psychology.

Preferred

  • Valued skills: computational modeling; programming; advanced statistics; neuroimaging (fMRI and/or EEG); valorization of research; collaboration with industrial / non-academic parties; fluency in Dutch;
  • Contributing to a positive work environment, team science and open science practices.

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences consists of five institutes: Education and Child Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies. The faculty has approximately 7,000 students and 1,025 employees. The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences brings together high-quality research and outstanding teaching as well as in multidisciplinary approaches. Our unit
The Cognitive Psychology unit contributes to the 3-year BSc program Psychology, the interdisciplinary minor Brain and Cognition, and the 3-year BSc program Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The unit is also responsible for two MSc tracks: Applied Cognitive Psychology (1 year) and Cognitive Neuroscience (2 years, research master). Important research themes in the unit are decision-making, emotions, cognitive control, comparative psychology, psychedelics and applied cognitive psychology. Terms and conditions
We offer atenured position conditional on a positive probation period of 12-18 months. Salary rangefrom € 3974.- to € 6181.- gross per month (pay scale 11to 12) in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
