Job description
We are looking for an assistant professor who is willing and able to contribute in a positive and transparent way to teaching, research and outreach at the Institute of Psychology, and the Cognitive Psychology Unit in particular.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing an independent interdisciplinary research line that is relevant and attractive for both students and non-academic partners that belong to the target group of applied cognitive psychology;
- Making research results public in peer-reviewed journals, at scientific conferences, and other professional meetings;
- Sharing the research results with a wider audience through (social) media and other public outreach;
- Teaching BSc and MSc courses and supervising BSc and MSc research projects, with a focus on applied cognitive psychology.

Required
- A strong research record, evident from (among others) a completed PhD thesis and peer-reviewed international publications on topics in applied cognitive psychology or related fields;
- Excellent teaching abilities and experience with various types of teaching and supervision of students at different stages of their education;
- Expertise that fits with the Applied Cognitive Psychology master specialization.
- Experience in valorization of research; collaboration with non-academic parties;
- Skills: fluency in Dutch; advanced statistics; virtual reality or simulation; programming; real-time data acquisition (e.g., performance tracking, eye tracking);
- Research focus in behavioral change, sustainability, safety, societal relevance, training, knowledge work, human factors, or performance optimization;
- Contributing to a positive work environment and open science.

Terms and conditions
We offer a tenured position conditional on a positive probation period of 12-18 months. Salary range from € 3974.- to € 6181.- gross per month (pay scale 11 to 12) in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification. If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this qualification within two years. Candidates are expected to reach B1 level fluency in Dutch within two years.

Institute Psychology, Cognitive Psychology unit
The Cognitive Psychology unit contributes among others to the 3-year BSc programme Psychology, the interdisciplinary minor Brain and Cognition, and the 3-year BSc programme Artificial Intelligence. The unit is furthermore responsible for two MSc tracks; Applied Cognitive Psychology (1 year) and Cognitive Neuroscience (2 years, research master). Important research themes in the unit, apart from applied cognitive psychology, are emotions, decision-making, cognitive control and comparative psychology.
