The University of Amsterdam (UvA)  is looking for an Advisor Research Funding to help social science researchers apply for research funding. You will be embedded in the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) and the UvA central grant advice team at Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA) , UvA-HvA office.

What will you do?


You will support researchers in the AISSR with their applications for research funding. The focus is on researchers of the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR). For most of your time, you will be stationed at the Institute and cooperate with the Institute organisation.

You will be responsible for stimulating researchers to apply for funding and for finding suitable funding opportunities for (excellent) scientists, in different stages of their research career. You will advise on individual and consortium grants, National and EU funds. The focus of your work will be on personal grants, such as NWO Vernieuwingsimpuls and ERC.

You will support researchers in the full process of grant applications (pre-award), from identifying a suitable program and call, to advising on the structure of the application and commenting on draft versions of the grant application. You will do early intakes with researchers on their ideas, coordinate peer review and assist and relieve researchers in the application process. Other tasks are to proactively inform researchers and research units on opportunities and to organize and coordinate information sessions about funding schemes and procedures. You will also give training and workshops and organize and coordinate interview training. You will coordinate your activities with the project office and research institute management. Finally, you will work together with the other IXA experts and faculty support. You have no post-award tasks.

Depending on your qualifications and ambitions it could also be a possibility to take on tasks related to social impact or knowledge utilization and/or do grant advise tasks in other UvA institutes.

What do you bring?


We expect you to:

  • have an academic professional and intellectual level;
  • have affinity with social science research;
  • have proven knowledge and multiple years of experience in supporting and advising researchers in all aspects of research grant applications in general and specifically in NWO Vernieuwingsimpuls and ERC applications;
  • be service- and result-oriented;
  • be able to handle multiple projects at once on a tight deadline;
  • be able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills, in Dutch and English.

What do we offer?


The appointment is for a period of 1 year. Upon positive evaluation and satisfactory performance, the appointment will be converted into an appointment with a permanent contract. The appointment is for 32-38 hours per week

The function description is that of Employee Knowledge Valorisation (Dutch: Medewerker Kennisvalorisatie) 3 or 2. The gross monthly salary will range from €3,974 up to a maximum of €6,181 (salary scale 11 or 12) for a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) and will be based on qualifications, expertise and relevant experience. The annual salary will be supplemented with 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus and good fringe benefits. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.

Your offices will be at the Amsterdam Science Park (IXA office) and UvA Roeterseiland Campus (AISSR).

The AISSR is one of the research institutes in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The AISSR unites all social science research of the UvA. It is organised in thematically focused programme groups that are embedded in four departments: Sociology, Geography, Planning & Development Studies, Political Science and Anthropology. Researchers are supported by the members of the AISSR Bureau who give assistance in all phases of the research. The Advisor Research Funding will be working with researchers of the AISSR and members of the AISSR bureau.
