Are you interested in working for one of Europe's leading research centres? Do you have organizational and web-skills? The Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES) - a centre of excellence for research, education and public debate about Europe, the European Union and its member states – is looking for a programme assistant. ACES, a cooperation between the faculties of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG), Law, Economics and Business (FEB), and Humanities (FGw), has been designated a UvA Research Priority Area for which it has received funding for the period 2019 - 2023. The ACES Management Team consists of Prof. Luiza Bialasiewicz (FGw), Professor Brian Burgoon (FMG) and Managing Director, Marie Coffey. The office of ACES is hosted by the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR).

What are you going to do

The programme assistant works under the supervision of the Managing Director. Together they staff the ACES office. The programme assistant supports the ACES Management Team, Theme Group Leaders and affiliates in their day-to-day operations, and is a source of information for external parties. Your main activities are:

  • Organising ACES academic and public events – on location as well as online - also in the context of ACES’s status as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence
  • Maintaining and contributing to ACES’s website, such as announcements of events and information about projects and ACES affiliates
  • Producing ACES’s monthly newsletter
  • Administrative tasks, such as booking travel and accommodation
  • Maintaining the ACES mailing lists
  • Planning meetings of the ACES Management, Governing Board and Advisory Board and producing minutes;
  • Answering internal and external information requests

What do you have to offer

The programme assistant:

  • Studies or has finished a study in an area relevant for ACES
  • Has excellent written and oral command of Dutch and English
  • Has good command of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Is well-skilled in organisation and communication
  • Is pro-active, accurate and able to do his/her work relatively independently.
  • Is flexible and willing to occasionally work evening events, if required.

What can we offer you

The position concerns temporary employment of 30.4hours for a maximum term of 1 year, following a positive assessment after two month probation period and barring unforeseen organisational developments.

Depending on your experience, the minimum salary is €2.402 and the maximumsalary is €3.026 gross per month based on a 38-hour working week, in keeping with salary scale 6, as per the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities .

We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
