Job description

As a Study Advisor at the Faculty of Science, you will advise students of the Department of Computer Science in a team of 4 study advisors on the content of their degree programmes, academic processes and regulations, and study skills. In addition, you will guide students in making realistic study plans and advise them about study-related and personal questions and problems that affect their study. Besides advising students, you are responsible for various other (administrative and organizational) tasks and you work closely with colleagues within the education office of the Faculty of Science and employees from other departments.

Expected Tasks

  • Advising Master students and helping them to plan and tackle study-related problems, personal problems and, if necessary, ensuring referral to other professionals; 
  • Monitoring students’ study progress; 
  • Providing information to students and answering their questions about their degree program;
  • Granting facilities to students with a disability;
  • Advising the program directors and the examination committee on requests from students and incorporating these in the relevant processes and policies; 
  • Participating in university/faculty-wide consultations and working groups with regard to student guidance, policy, organization and educational innovation. 

Requirements
  • A Bachelor/Master degree (preferably in the field of Science);
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience in advising students;
  • Excellent and demonstrable ability to work with students from different cultural backgrounds;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to operate diplomatically in an environment in which different, sometimes conflicting, interests are present;
  • Excellent command of both English and Dutch;
  • A proactive, flexible, analytical and service-oriented attitude;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Dutch higher education system is an advantage;
  • A few years of work experience in a similar position is preferable.

Conditions of Employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university. Depending on education and experience on a full-time basis, the salary is a minimum of €2,836 (scale 10) and a maximum of €4,474 (scale 10) gross per month. The position is classified according to UFO profile: Study Advisor 1 and is open to at least 0.8 FTE.

The employment contract is initially entered into for a period of 1 year.
